Play-Based Learning
Play-based learning will be utilized regularly. Play-based learning allows children to combine their play with their work and learning. Not only is play developmentally appropriate practice, but it also promotes holistic development: physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative). Among many other things, play helps children learn exploration, knowledge construction, verbal skills, sharing, problem solving, emotion regulation, empathy, relationship building, social norms and expectations, and fine and gross motor skills. When children are allowed to choose the way they play, they develop confidence and can grasp concepts more easily.

Curriculum
Our curriculum is a combination of two-research based programs and Miss Shelby's Early Childhood Education.
Conscious DisciplineConscious Discipline is trauma-informed, evidence-based Social Emotional Learning. It uses four components. Miss Shelby has been working on the first two: Conscious Discipline Brain State Model and Seven Power for Conscious Adults, which will help in leading the students through the other two components. We will be focusing on Creating the School Family and the Seven Skills of Discipline.

Learning Without TearsLearning Without Tears' Early Learning program, Get Set For School, will provide fun, active, hands-on learning experiences to help students begin the writing process. Some of the manipulatives and tools that will be used through this program include My First School Book, Wood Pieces, Roll-A-Dough Letters, Pre-K Name Plates, I Know My Numbers book, and Mat Man books.

Daily Activities

Large Groups
Whole-group times will happen when we start each day and again at the end of the day as times to connect, share, and practice skills.
Centers
During center time, children are allowed to explore, create, and build as they learn through peer interactions.
Rest
Active children need time to rest and recharge. Students will be allowed to nap or complete independent, quiet activities.

Gross Motor
We will get in our large motor activities outside everyday, unless extreme weather prohibits.
Small Groups
During centers, small groups will work on activities specific to children's skill set.
Meals
Active children also need nutritious foods. Each day we will have two snacks and lunch together at school. Meal times will be used for connecting and practicing independent skills.

"DHHS may be able to help families with the cost of child care through the Child Care Subsidy Program. The Child Care Subsidy Program is for children age 12 and younger. The full cost of child care may be covered. Depending on their income, some families may owe a monthly fee that is paid directly to the child care provider.

"The goal of the Child and Adult Care Food Program is to see that well balanced meals are served and that good eating habits are taught in child care settings. The CACFP provides nutritious meals and snacks served to eligible children in child care centers, family day care homes, and outside-school-hours centers, as well as to eligible adults in adult care centers."

"Rooted in Relationships is an initiative that partners with communities to implement evidence based practices that enhance the social-emotional development of children, birth through age 8. One part of this initiative supports communities as they implement the Pyramid Model, a framework of evidence-based practices that promote the social, emotional, and behavioral competence of young children, in selected family childcare homes and childcare centers. In addition, communities develop and implement a long-range plan that influences the early childhood systems of care in the community and supports the healthy social-emotional development of children."
